SAXONY – VASE – WITH KRIEGSFLAGGE – DATED 1914-1916 – MEISSEN
Today we offer a beautiful crisp white porcelain vase that measure 5″ tall, 4.5″ at the top opening and 3″ at the base. The vase is adorned with hand painted Kreigsflagge and “1914-1916″ and oaks leaves in vibrant hues of blue. The vases overall body shape is informal and fun. There is hallmarking on the bottom of the vase, crossed swords, for Meissen and stamped “Q228″.
Meissen was the premier porcelain maker of the Kingdom of Saxony. This firm was established in 1710 and remains active to this date. Other royal manufacturers of porcelain were Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur – KPM of Berlin founded in 1763 by King Frederick the Great and In Bavaria the noted firm of the Kings was Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory which was founded in 1747.
1916 was very much the middle of the war and Germany was still very viable in its war effort. The population in Germany was still very supportive of the war effort. Patriotic items of all sorts were still quite popular.
