Description
This is an amazing piece of trench art. It is a letter opener fashioned from battlefield brass into a letter opener shaped like a scimitar. The letter opener measures 8” in length. The blade measures 1” in width at its widest point. If you look closely at the handle, you will see it is made from a complete, deactivated, 8mm Mauser rifle round. In turn, a piece of brass, probably from an artillery shell casing, has been flattened and shaped into the curved blade. The final detail is the rifle shell casing, which is located at the end opposite to the blade’s tip. A small brass ball has replaced the primer. The blade does NOT feature any engraving. It is very different from what we have seen before.
