SHOULDER BOARD – PRUSSIA – ENLISTED MAN/NCO – HUSAREN-REGIMENT NR 10.
This is a single shoulder board for a Magdeburgisches Husaren-Regiment Nr 10 Enlisted Man/NCO. The regiment was founded in 1813 and garrisoned at Stendal, where it was attached to the IV. Armeekorps. The regiment saw action in the Napoleonic Wars and in other conflicts up to and including WW I. After the end of WW I, it was disbanded.
The shoulder board measures 2″ x 5 ¼.” The shoulder board’s surface is dark-blue. A heavy design of small yellow chevrons is set against the blue surface. The subdued metal regimental designation, “10,” is set in its center. It was worn on a feldgrau attila, as evidenced by the reverse’s feldgrau backing. It is in very fine condition. It appears on page 290 of Under Arms for the Kaiser: Shoulder Insignia of the German Army’s Regiments 1871-1918, by Michael Kelso. Being featured in this excellent reference book certainly enhances its value!
