Description
This is a single Oberleutnant’s epaulette from 2. Hannoversches Infanterie-Regiment Nr 77. The originally Hanoverian regiment was founded in 1813. It was garrisoned at Celle and attached to the X. Armeekorps. The regiment was one of several from the Kingdom of Hannover’s Army that fought with Wellington and Blucher at the Battle of Waterloo in June 1815. For participating in this epic battle, regiment members were allowed to wear “Waterloo” bandeaux on their pickelhauben.
The epaulette features a gold moon, with a white felt upper covering. The covering displays a gilt “77” and an Oberleutnant’s single gilt pip. Its reverse has a red felt backing. Aside from some minor soiling, the epaulette is in very fine condition.
