Shrapnel letter openers were quite popular during WW I. This is a rather unusual variation. The handle of the letter opener is not quite as jagged as many as we see. It is not as dangerous to handle. It measures 1 1/2” x 2.” A brass cross guard makes it look like a sword or dagger. It has a relatively short blade which measures 2” x 1/2.” This makes the overall length 4 1/4.” It is a very handy, easy-to-use letter opener with a good heft to it.
