Description
Here is a very different example of zeppelin-affiliated tableware. This simple teapot was NOT intended for passenger use onboard zeppelins. It IS possible that some were used by LZ-127 Graf Zeppelin and the LZ-129 Hindenburg crew members. It primarily was used in the employee dining rooms at the Zeppelin Company’sFriedrichshafen and Frankfurt workshops and plants. Both cities’ locations maintained hanger and construction/repair space.
The teapot (teekanne) is made of a base metal and measures 2 ⅛” x 4 ¼” x 5.” It has a stout handle and a simple button on the lid for opening to add hot water and tea. It has the legend below stamped on its side.Flug u. Zeppelinhafen
Gaststätten (Restaurants)
The teekanne’s bottom displays a manufacturer’s hallmark for Krupp Berndorf. Its size, 30cl., is also listed. It represents three-tenths of a liter (10.14 ounces), which would fill two small teacups. The pot sports a wonderful patina. A lot of Zeppelin Company shoptalk was shared over this pot. You can create some fine memories of your own by using it to brew your tea. From personal experience, I can vouch that it works just as well as it did some ninety years ago!
