Description

This is a high-quality veterans medal from the German Colonial troops (Schutztruppen) of German Southwest Africa (Deutsch Süd-West-Afrika).

The medal is silver-toned. It was specifically for troops involved in combat during the years 1904 through 1906. Special medals were produced for men who participated in the conflict as combatants and as non combatants. Across the medal’s top is the legend “zur Erinnerung an die Kriegsjahre in Deutsch Süd-West-Afrika (In remembrance of the war year in German Southwest Africa.” Below that is a Hohenzollern Crown, with a wreath enclosing a pair of crossed rifles and a colonial-style hat sporting an upturned brim. A reich’s kokarde is pinned onto the upturned brim.

The medal’s reverse features the ever-watchful Germania, along with the words “In Trutziger Wehr Für Deutschlands Ruhm & Ehr!” (In Defiant Defense for Germany’s Glory and Honor!). A loop appears at the medal’s top, but it has no jump ring or ribbon.
