VIVAT RIBBON FOR THE S. M. S. MOWE

$60.00

Vivat ribbons were patriotic silk ribbons sold for the benefit of the German Red Cross. They measure 16″ x 2 ½,” and feature scenes saluting German royalty and military during WW I. Most that I have seen were produced during the early to midyears of the war. This example salutes Korvettenkapitän Graf zu Dohna Schlodien, the commander of the S. M. S. Möwe. This vessel was an auxiliary cruiser and raider that was commissioned in 1915 and sunk. Graf zu Dohna Schlodien was a celebrated commander in the Navy. He was awarded the Pour le Mérite. The ribbon is white and embossed in black with an eagle, a likeness of Graf zu Dohna Schlodien, and a kriegsflagge. It is dated February 1916.
