This piece is a perfect example of the cigar cutter as objet d’art. It is created from a curved, ivory walrus tusk measuring 9 1/2″ in length and 1 1/2″ in diameter. Walrus ivory was highly-prized in Germany. Along with elephant ivory, it was used in the fine grips seen on naval officer’s daggers and swords during the Imperial Period. At the top of the tusk a fine mechanism has been affixed. A fine silver, or German-silver band has been engraved as a gift from one friend to another, saying “Carl Müller s/l Freund Paul Krebs 5 May 1926.” The actual cutting mechanism is on the band. It is a bit stiff, but it operates well. Perhaps a bit more use and oiling with WD 40 will loosen it up a bit. I am going to use this example until one of you claims it. It is a great way to enjoy your cigars as a gentleman did more than eighty years ago!
