Description
WÜRTTEMBERG – SHAKO – ENLISTED MAN – MOUNTAIN TROOPS
This is a very rare enlisted man shako to an elite unit in the Württemberg army. This unit was known as “Mountain Troops”. The leather body of the shako is in excellent condition with some minor blemishes. The wappen is silver and has the emblem of the royal house of Württemberg. The chin scales are also silver toned and show a lovely patina. The final detail to the obverse is a Wurttemberg feldzeichen (field badge.). This is a pre 1900 shako and thus the lack of a kokarde is correct.
As we view the interior we see a marvelous full enlisted man liner, complete with draw string. It should be noted that during WW I Erwin Rommel was a member of this unit and would be awarded the Pour le Mérite. Rommel would go onto to become a Generalfeldmarschall. He committed suicide due to his involvement in the 20 July 1944 attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler.
